Pause a Bit Before Asking Again for Maximum Success

Puppies take a few moments to process a request. A general rule that works well with puppies is to ask them to do what you want, for example, "sit", then pause for a moment before asking them a second time if they haven't done what you asked. The pause is critically important as it allows your puppy time enough to process your request and then to act on it. Many people make the mistake of repeating over and over again "sit", "sit", "sit", etc., not giving time for the pup to react. At The Puppy School, we teach only ask whatever you are asking two times (not more) and always remember to give a space in time between the two asks if the puppy does not do as you asked after the first request. Take a little time and your pup will be able to listen, process and react better.
